Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in June in reference to a money-laundering case, was taken to the government-run Stanley Medical College in Chennai early on Monday morning.

Though no official bulletin has been launched by the hospital but, sources stated the DMK chief, who’s lodged on the Central Prison in Puzhal was introduced in for a well being check-up. Balaji, who at present holds no portfolio within the MK Stalin-led DMK authorities within the state, was seen coming into the hospital in a wheelchair amid tight safety.


The minister was arrested on June 14 below the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in reference to the cash-for-jobs rip-off that surfaced in 2015 within the Tamil Nadu transport division when he was the transport minister within the erstwhile AIADMK authorities led by the late J Jayalalithaa.

The arrest was made after an 18-hour-long interrogation and search of his official residence and chambers on the state Secretariat. Days later, Balaji was hospitalised and underwent a bypass surgery at Chennai’s Kauvery hospital. He reportedly has a historical past of cardiac points.

Last month, the Principal Sessions Court in Chennai dismissed an utility filed by Balaji in search of bail.
