Tymal Mills withdrew himself from action during England’s victory against Sri Lanka on Monday

England bowler Tymal Mills has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup with a right thigh strain.

Mills, England’s joint-leading wicket-taker in the tournament with seven scalps, underwent a scan on Tuesday after he sustained the injury bowling in the T20 World Cup Super 12s victory against Sri Lanka on Monday, in Sharjah.

“Absolutely gutted but I’ve been here before,” Mills tweeted.

“Loved being back in an England shirt and will do all I can to get back again. Only a minor injury but I won’t be where I need to in the next 10 days.

“Backing the boys all the way.”

Surrey seamer Reece Topley has been added to the England squad, following his role as travelling reserve.

England have fielded an unchanged team for their first four matches of the tournament, all of which have been won.

Their final match of the Super 12 phase is on Saturday against South Africa, live on Sky Sports, with Eoin Morgan’s side already all but assured of a semi-final spot.

Mills, 29, made his first England appearance last month against the West Indies in both sides’ tournament opener after more than four, injury-plagued, years away from the international arena.

Fellow bowlers Mark Wood and Tom Curran have been unavailable for selection in the four matches so far because of ankle and knee problems, respectively.
