UConn Sports Performance Announces Hiring of Kyle Cusson and Joel DeMarco Named Director of Olympic Sports Performance – University of Connecticut Athletics

STORRS, Conn. – UConn Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance Moe Butler introduced that Kyle Cusson has been employed as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and Joel DeMarco has been elevated to the Director of Olympic Sports Performance.

Cusson, who first joined the employees in 2021, can be working with the UConn softball and ladies’s swimming and diving packages.  Prior to UConn, Cusson served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Trinity College, overseeing all features of coaching for Men’s and Women’s Track & Field, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Squash, and Women’s Crew.  A local of Springfield, MA, he earned his Bachelor of Science diploma in Applied Exercise Science from Springfield College and his Masters of Science diploma from Concordia.

“We are excited to have Coach Cusson with us in full time status,” commented Butler.  “He is an excellent coach and brings a wealth of knowledge to this position.”

DeMarco, who has been at UConn since 2012, can have oversight of all Olympic sports activities efficiency groups and employees and can immediately work the baseball, girls’s hockey and volleyball packages.  Prior to his present workforce assignments, Joel assisted with Football and oversaw coaching for the Men’s & Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country, Men’s and Women’s Tennis and Golf groups.  He has coached student-athletes to 2 AAC Conference Championships with Women’s Track & Field, a Men’s Track and Field AAC Outdoor Championship, in addition to the 2021 Big East Regular Season and Conference Baseball Championship.  He has additionally coached 5 All-Americans, 17 MLB draft picks, and 11 NFL draft picks. A local of North Adams, MA, Joel earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Health Performance from the University of New England and his Master of Education in Exercise Science and Sports Studies from Springfield College. 

“Coach DeMarco has been an invaluable asset to the Sport Performance Department since his first days on campus,” Butler mentioned.  “He is a tremendous member of the sport performance staff and we are thankful to have him managing our Olympic Sports Performance.”
