Dubuque County (KWWL) — The Dubuque County Board of Health holds a public hearing on August 26 to discuss a possible countywide mask mandate.

The City of Dubuque issued a mask mandate that went into effect on Aug. 10.

The meeting is virtual; it starts at 6 p.m.

The mandate would require anyone older than 3-years-old to wear a mask in public when social distancing is not possible. The mandate would apply to the entire Dubuque County, outside of the City of Dubuque.

Several mayors from smaller communities in the county say they’re against the mandate.

Epworth Mayor Sandra Grassman is a retired teacher and says it’s not necessary for her town of 1800.

“People who want to wear masks, can. Those who don’t feel comfortable, if I walk into a store and they’re not wearing masks and I don’t feel comfortable, I’ll walk back out,” Grassman said.
