LUCKNOW: A lengthy question paper with high difficulty level gave a tough time to aspirants appearing for UPSC Prelims-2021 examination, even as 50% of the candidates skipped the test, on Sunday.
Those appearing for their second attempt said this year’s examination was tough as compared to the last year’s paper. At least 20,000 candidates took the examination held in two shifts at 84 centres of the city.
Over 50% of the candidates skipped the UPSC examination. Total 39,598 candidates were registered for the examination of whom only 19,919 (50.30%) appeared in the first shift while 19,751 (49.88%) were present in the second shift.
Many candidates did not follow Covid-19 safety norms. After the examination got over, a number of aspirants were spotted standing in groups without masks.
“Three questions from sports were asked for the first time in the last one decade. There were questions on Laureus World Sports Award, ICC world test championship and Summer Olympic championships. Questions were also asked on pandemic and Indo-China ties,” said a candidate, Sameer Banerjee.
Another aspirant, Satvik Mishra, said: “Questions on the constitutional status of India in 1950 and essential features that indicate India’s federal character were tough. Questions from sports surprised candidates as we don’t pay much attention to this section.”
“There were only three questions from geography but in previous years it covered a considerable section of the paper,” said another candidate, Arpita Srivastava. She said questions from polity and history were the easiest ones as they were from NCERT books.
The examination was earlier scheduled to be held on June 29 but was postponed in view of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
