The anti-corruption campaign should be intensified by tapping technology to fight corruption in government and encouraging more people to report irregularities in the bureaucracy, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) commissioner Greco Belgica said Sunday.

According to Belgica, winning the fight against corruption will require “us to transform, or even radically replace, the institutions and systemic foundations that allow corruption to prosper.”

“We need to level up, step up in our game. Yung mga korap kasi, sanay na sanay na sila sa ginagawa nila kaya wala na silang takot gumawa ng kabalbalan. (The corrupt are so used to their activity so they no longer have fear to commit wrongdoing),” he said in a statement.

Belgica acknowledged that technology plays a crucial role to the success in the fight against the “systemic” corruption in government.

“The capability to monitor the money flow, identify fragments in the IT system and evaluate systems and organizational flaws  using data sourced through automation is an important capability that the government should possess,” he said.

Belgica also urged the public to help the government eliminate corruption by reporting any anomalies in agencies. He said they can refer their complaints to the PACC and the Anti-Red Tape Authority.

“We need to step up in fighting corruption by reporting. Citizens must actively engage with the agencies that exist to serve them,” he said.

“And should they find any reason to believe that their concerns are not being addressed properly, I encourage them to report to the proper agencies such as ARTA and the PACC. Ang punto ko dito (My point) is let us be good citizens of this nation. Damayan natin ang ating pangulo. Tulungan natin si Tatay Digong (Let us help the President),” he said.

President Duterte, in a recent public address, admitted he offered to resign after expressing exasperation with the endless corruption in government. Duterte, who has two years left in his six-year term, admitted having difficulty in fighting endemic corruption in the bureaucracy.

The President has also asked Congress to pass a new legislation that will cut corruption and further streamline government processes to promote the ease of doing business in the country. He said he was prepared to appear before Congress to present his “almost radical” recommendation to address the menace.
