The cousin of the Uvalde, Texas, faculty shooter was arrested in San Antonio after threatening to commit a faculty capturing.

Nathan James Cruz, 17, was arrested on a felony cost of constructing a terroristic menace to the general public and a misdemeanor cost of constructing a terroristic menace towards a member of the family, in response to Bexar County Central Magistrate information.

It was Cruz’s mom who known as the police and reported threats that her son had made, Officer Nick Soliz of the San Antonio Police Department tells NPR.

Soliz confirms that Cruz is a cousin of Salvador Ramos, the 18-year-old who killed 19 college students and two lecturers at Robb Elementary in Uvalde final yr.

Cruz instructed his sister that he was planning “to do the same thing” as his cousin, in response to an affidavit reported by The New York Times and News 4 San Antonio. NPR has not seen the affidavit.

Cruz reportedly made the statements to his sister whereas she was driving him in a automobile. He threatened to shoot her within the head and “shoot the school.” She knowledgeable their mom, who known as the police.

According to the Times and News 4, the mom was involved as a result of her son made the remarks whereas “intoxicated” and so they reside close to an elementary faculty.

The cost for making a terroristic menace towards the general public is a third-degree felony, whereas the menace towards his household is a Class A misdemeanor. Together, the bond for Cruz’s launch is $160,000.

The San Antonio police say this arrest factors to the significance of reporting regarding habits and statements.

“Here a family member called police, resulting in detectives investigating the case which concluded in an arrested. With school starting, SAPD wants parents and faculty to know, that SAPD takes all reports of threats seriously and will investigate and take appropriate action,” the division wrote Tuesday in a post on Facebook.
