BALTIMORE — In a video exclusive, Susan Weiner talks with Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists leaders about positioning its members to address diabetes comorbidities and about updates to danatech, its technology website.

Susan Weiner, MS, RDN, CDN, CDCES, FADCES, is owner of Susan Weiner Nutrition PLLC. She is an Endocrine Today Editorial Board member and the Endocrine Today Diabetes in Real Life column editor. Jan Kavookjian, PhD, MBA, FAPhA, FADCES, is associate professor of health outcomes research and policy at Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy and 2022 ADCES president. Lucille Hughes, DNP, MSN/ED, CDCES, BC-ADM, FADCES, is director of diabetes education at Mount Sinai South Nassau in New York and 2023 ADCES president-elect.

Kavookjian offers ways certified diabetes care and education specialists can better support people with diabetes who have other renal and cardiometabolic conditions, including reaching out to other health care providers.

“Go confidently, claim your space, remind everybody you’re a certified diabetes care and education specialist, and let them know what you can do to help impact outcomes,” Kavookjian said.

Hughes describes the ADCES-created website danatech.org, which will open up to non-members in September. New features include a tool that is searchable by insurance company to determine whether a person’s plan covers a specific continuous glucose monitor and a tool that allows comparisons between similar devices.

“We are not done,” said Hughes. “We will continue to update the website as technology grows and as the need grows.”
