Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat clinched the 55kg gold medal within the Senior National Wrestling Championships being organised by the IOA-constituted ad-hoc committee on Sunday. Vinesh showcased her expertise by defeating her opponent from Madhya Pradesh Jyoti 4-0 regardless of the ace grappler competing in the next weight class. The 29-year-old Vinesh, representing Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), had gained the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games gold in 50kg class, whereas her title triumph on the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games had come within the 53kg class.

In one other eager contest, 2021 World Championship silver medallist, Haryana’s Anshu Malik defeated 2020 Asian Championship gold medallist Sarita Mor (Railways) 8-3 within the 59kg class.

Haryana girls dominated the proceedings, taking the highest spot with 189 factors and narrowly pushing powerhouse RSPB to second spot with 187 factors. Pondicherry have been a distant third with 81 factors.

In the lads’s greco-roman part, RSPB emerged total winners with 208 factors, adopted distantly by Services Sports Control Board (127 factors) and Maharashtra (113 factors).

The final day of the competitors on Monday will see males’s free-style occasions.
