Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment reportedly no longer up for sale

Back in mid June, Warner Bros parent company, AT&T, was reportedly in talks to sell off Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment – the company’s massive game development and publishing division. Since then, Rocksteady and WB Montreal have revealed their next massive projects and now, it would appear that a sale is no longer on the table.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the higher-ups have had a change of heart and now deem Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment as too valuable to sell. According to sources familiar with the situation, the games division has now been removed from AT&T’s list of assets up for sale.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has a huge foothold in the games industry, spanning games based off of popular DC characters, Lego-brand crossover games, Mortal Kombat and of course, Lord of the Rings.

Due to all of these popular franchises, WB Games has plenty of growth potential, which is why the brakes are being pumped on any potential sale. Acquisition talks could always pop up again in the future, but for now, WBIE will be staying where it is.

KitGuru Says: Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment would’ve been a huge acquisition for any major publisher, so there are likely a few disappointed executives floating around the industry this week. Either way though, this seems like it is probably the right move.
