PITTSBURGH — Pop artist Burton Morris, a Pittsburgh native with Aliquippa roots, will speak at a virtual happy hour July 29, hosted by the Sen. John Heinz History Center.

The 6 p.m. online gathering is free, though donations are welcome, as Morris discusses his bold depictions of everyday objects and cultural icons, seen everywhere from the Major League Baseball All-Star Game to national advertising campaigns to the background of the fictional Central Perk on TV’s “Friends.”

Part of the Strip District museum’s History at Home online offerings presented via Zoom, pre-registration is required at heinzhistorycenter.org/events.

Morris was featured in the History Center’s 2014 exhibition “Poptastic! The Art of Burton Morris.” While at a press gathering there, he referenced his Aliquippa heritage.

“I love that city,” Morris said. “Aliquippa has always held a special place in my heart. It’s like my second home.”

Morris said the frequent childhood visits he made to his father Marvin “Sonny” Morris’ former Aliquippa neighborhood helped inspire his upbeat art, that’s earned him recognition as one of his generation’s pre-eminent pop artists.
