After plenty of solid fall sports performers over the last week, here are the nominees for the Journal Star high school athlete of the week for Oct. 4-Oct. 9.

Tanner Sprecher, Pekin football
The running back was a big reason behind Pekin’s 14-point comeback to beat Mid-Illini Conference host Metamora, 35-28 on Friday night. He ran for 198 yards and three touchdowns as the Dragons (5-2, 3-2) find themselves in a three-way tie for second place in the M-I with Metamora (5-2, 3-2) and Dunlap (4-3, 3-2).
Jake Morin, Eureka football
The quarterback’s touchdown pass to Justis Bachman and subsequent game-winning, two-point conversion to Drew Dingledine helped Hornets rally for a 43-42 double-overtime victory over Colfax Ridgeview/Lexington on Friday night. Morin also scored three rushing TDs as Eureka (5-2) became playoff eligible.
Hank Alvey, Illini Bluffs boys soccer
The Tigers goalkeeper came up with a big save in penalty kicks to beat Canton, 1-0 in the Class 1A Peoria Christian Regional on Friday night. Alvey’s final of three saves in PKs came on the potential match-tying attempt. That stop came after Will Giftos’ goal put the Tigers up 5-4. The Illini Bluffs/Farmington co-op advances to the regional semifinals at 4 p.m. Tuesday against second-seed Roanoke-Benson/Eureka at EastSide Centre in East Peoria.
Kennady Anderson, Annawan/Wethersfield girls cross country
The sophomore won the Lincoln Trail Conference meet, clocking in at 19:22.1 on Thursday at the Dunes Golf Course in Kewanee. Anderson outdistanced herself from runner-up Miranda Reed of Ridgewood by 2.8 seconds to take the individual crown in the field of 45 runners.
Wilson Georges, Limestone boys cross country
The senior is a semi-regular nominee with his latest accolade coming with a first-place finish at Saturday’s Runnin’ Red Invitational at Black Partridge Park in Metamora. Georges covered the 2.94-mile course in 14:39.6 — almost 10 seconds faster than the second-place finisher as 279 runners crossed the finish line.
Allison Pacocha, Eureka girls golf
This makes the senior a three-time nominee following a tied for third-place finish at the Class 1A state finals. Pacocha’s Saturday round at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur featured five birdies and moved her up the leaderboard. The Bradley University recruit was tied for seventh after Friday’s round before a 2-under-par 70 capped her prep golf career.
Connor Hamm, Macomb boys golf
Hamm becomes the only fall athlete so far to be nominated four times. And it’s very deservingly so after his 2-under-par 69 and fourth-place finish at the Class 2A state finals. He shot a 2-under 33 with five birdies on the back nine at Weibring Golf Club in Normal. It was the highest individual finish for a Bomber golfer in school history.
Metamora girls tennis
The Redbirds won the Mid-Illini Conference title on Saturday at Morton, edging Dunlap, 21-20. Hattie Timmerman was the lone M-I champion, capturing the No. 1 singles title. She beat Morton’s Ilyse Knepp, 6-6 (2), 6-1. Youngquist took second in No. 2 singles, while Metamora’s No. 1 double team — Carly Edwards and Anna Friederich — finished as runners-up.
Ava Salverson, Dunlap girls swimming and diving
The sophomore won two events and was runnerup in two more as Dunlap claimed the 12-team Panther Invite title, edging out Byron, 241-232 at East Moline on Saturday. Salverson won the 100-free in :54.09 as well as the 400-yard free in 3:42.9 with Shannon McCall, Kaylee Dexter and Grace DiGiallonardo. Her and the 200-yard medley relay of Dexter, DiGiallonardo and Ellie Mitchell took second in 1:55.03. She finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke to Dexter, 1:10.64 to 1:11.08.
Annabelle Fortin, Illini Bluffs volleyball
The sophomore middle hitter helped lead the Tigers to the inaugural Inter-County Athletic Conference tournament title on Saturday. Fortin went for five kills, two blocks and two aces as No. 2 seed IB avenged an earlier season loss to top-seeded Peoria Christian, 25-19, 25-16. The Tigers (20-8) also won the Knoxville Tournament earlier in the season.
Washington volleyball
The Panthers went 5-0 to claim the Panther Invitational championship at East Moline on Saturday. Washington (21-4) put Georgia Duncan and Jori Dowling on the all-tournament team. The pair each had 29 kills on the day, while Grace Scrivner dished out 58 assists and Quinn Gillespie had 46 assists.
