“A neown blue sun, apparently caused by volcanic ash can be seen across scotland today,” an X (previously Twitter) person stated. “The “Blue Sun” today at 10:15 this morning over Worlingworth in Suffolk. No filters!” one other one added.

Dan Harris, deputy chief forecaster on the Met Office, advised MailOnline: “We have a strong westerly influence to our weather at the moment and this can bring air all the way from North America to Europe wrapped up within our weather systems. This air currently contains smoke from Canadian wildfires. A combination of smoke and high cloud in the atmosphere can scatter sunlight, creating unusual colour shifts.”

“Gosh never seen a blue sun before!” one Twitter wrote. Chris Page, ITV’s climate presenter, defined what was occurring.

“Getting lots of questions regarding the sun looking an eerie blue today. It’s the power of wildfire smoke diffusing the sunlight which has been pulled across the Atlantic from the North America because of Storm Agnes,” he stated.
