BENGALURU: After a six-month pandemic-induced break, racing is set to resume at the Bangalore Turf Club from the Kannada Rajyotsava day on November 1. The date was finalised by the club on Tuesday.
The Winter season will be a full-fledged racing calendar with one race day per week, featuring seven races on each day. The government nod to resume horse racing behind closed doors at the BTC came on September 5.
To begin with, the prospectus for the first five race days is likely to be released later this week.
For the first time, online betting is scheduled to be introduced during the course of the season. The app is in the final stages of development but modalities on from where people can bet is yet to be worked out. For starters, it is likely to be Karnataka-centric. In the country six states / Union territories – Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Delhi – have racing licences and the first step will be to register with them.
Also, the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is being worked on and is expected to be out in the next three weeks. Apart from the various new norms, the SOP will also spell out the rules of entry for owners and other stakeholders.
The November 1 start will give the jockeys, a majority of whom have put on weight, enough time to get race fit. It also provides the trainers the time to ensure the horses are back in shape.
REMAINING SUMMER RACES CANCELED
Meanwhile, no races from the summer season will be carried forward. They have been cancelled and entry fees reimbursed.
