Residents at Wild Acres Care Home in Wokingham were treated to a trip down memory lane and an afternoon of entertainment.

The Not Forgotten, a British Armed Forces charity for serving and ex-service men and women, recently launched a special concert series called Those Not Forgotten Years.

Entertainment from The Not Forgotten

This nationwide outdoor concert tour of care homes is reaching thousands of residents across the country, to entertain, boost morale and lift spirits.

On August 18, around 23 residents and staff gathered, at a suitable social distance, for the concert in Wokingham, Berkshire.

The memorable afternoon included a fabulous tea, to lift the lockdown blues.

Time for a dance

Residents sang along, tapped their feet and waved flags as the professional team of singers and musicians performed their set.

There were popular classics and rousing favourites from the 30s and 40s, including a poignant special tribute the late Dame Vera Lynn.

Activities co-ordinator Michelle Munro said:

“We can’t tell you what an absolute tonic it was for the residents and the staff, we all had a fabulously entertaining afternoon in the sun with you all. This afternoon has been absolutely one of my favourite times with the residents ever – just magical!”

Strawberry scones and other afternoon tea treats

Brigadier James Stopford, CBE said:

“Sadly, events to commemorate VE Day, VJ Day and D-Day could not take place properly this year, so we were determined to help World War Two veterans, and those who have served their country, mark these important days by bringing the celebrations to them.”

The Not Forgotten combats isolation and loneliness amongst the Armed Forces community through social activities and challenge holidays.
