And for those considering taking the plunge next September, an open day practical taster session is taking place this Thursday, October 28th, from 12.30pm to 3pm.

The course, open to 16 to 19-year-olds, offers a BTEC Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Sport, offering progression into higher education, apprenticeships, scholarships and job roles in sport.

At present, 96 students are studying the BTEC at Wolverhampton College, the highest number enrolled to date, split into five separate classes to maintain a high quality of teaching.

“The course is now proving extremely popular and the academic year has got off to a great start,” says senior education officer Brad Moore.

“It is a course which is perfect for people ultimately looking to study further or work within sport.

“Aside from the qualification itself, there are also enrichment opportunities for students as part of their studies so they will get to spend time at Molineux, Compton training ground, meet the first team players and get involved in projects like NCS (National Citizens Scheme).

“The course covers many of the different strands that can help prepare people for careers in different areas of sport.”

Students also get the chance to represent Wolves as part of the course, with several different teams based on ability, and victories already secured this season over both Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.

Fixtures are played in the EFL Community League with other opposition including the likes of Manchester City.

Alongside the matches the BTEC programme also includes training three times a week which includes a strength and conditioning session.
