TEMPE, Ariz. (July 31, 2020) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) handed out its academic earlier this week and the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team was well represented.

The Ducks were again recipients of the All-Academic distinction and eight student-athletes: seniors Nicole Badalyan and Joilin Gomez, sophomores Alexis Fuda and Agatha Malinowski, juniors Gabriella Tantillo and Chelsea Braithwaite, along with first-years Audrey Heaberlin and Juliette Marchisio, were recipients of the organization’s Scholar-Athlete honor. In 2020, a total of 1,058 Division III female student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 175 women’s tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. The award was the second for Fuda and Tantillo, while Badalyan, Braithwaire, Gomez, Malinowski, Heaberlin and Marchisio each collected their first career academic honor.

 

“I am very proud of our team for being named an ITA All-Academic Team again this year,” expressed interim head coach Arik Zeevy. “The focus and dedication these student-athletes showed in the classroom is a great representation of what being a Stevens Duck is all about.”

 

A student-athlete qualifies as a Scholar-Athlete by being a varsity letter-winner, having a grade-point average of at least a 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year). In order for the team to qualify as an All-Academic Team, the program must have a team GPA of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form and all varsity letter-winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
