Dhaba restaurant is famous for its authentic Indian recipes and yellow dal tadka features in their topmost menu items. If you have ever been there and tasted the dal, you would now what we are talking about.

Boiled toor dal is mixed with onions and tomatoes and spices like Kashmiri whole red chilli, green chilli, coriander powder, red chilli powder etc. Garnished with fresh coriander leaves, this yellow dal tadka is a pure Indian traditional delight.

Here’s the complete, step-by-step recipe of yellow dal tadka –

PREP TIME: 10 minutes COOK TIME: 20 minutes SERVES: 2 servings

Ingredients:

1 cup boiled toor dal

2 tbsp ghee

2 dry red chilies

1 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp ginger garlic paste

1 tsp green chilies

1/2 cup onion, chopped

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp coriander powder

1 tsp red chilli powder

1/2 cup water

Salt to taste

Coriander, for garnishing

METHOD:
1.     In a pan, pour ghee and heat it.
2.     Add a dry red chili, cumin seeds, ginger garlic paste, chopped green chilies and onions. Mix well.
3.     Add the powdered spices and chopped tomatoes and saute for a while
4.     Pour the boiled dal into the pan.
5.     Add some water and mix well.
6.     Garnish with fresh coriander and a dry red chili.
7.     Serve with rice/roti.
