Shared intelligence from Five Eyes knowledgeable Trudeau’s India allegation, CTV News stories

(Reuters) – U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Cohen confirmed that “shared intelligence among Five Eyes partners” had knowledgeable Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of the attainable involvement of Indian brokers within the homicide of a Canadian citizen in June, CTV News reported.

Intelligence-sharing community Five Eyes consists of the U.S., Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Trudeau stated on Monday that Ottawa had credible intelligence linking Indian brokers to the homicide of Sikh separatist chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Vancouver, prompting an offended response from New Delhi, which denies the allegation.

“I will say this was a matter of shared intelligence information. There was a lot of communication between Canada and the United States about this, and I think that’s as far as I’m comfortable going,” Cohen advised CTV News in an interview to be aired on Sunday.

The Canadian authorities amassed intelligence from each human and digital sources in a months-long investigation into the homicide, CBC News reported individually on Thursday.

Cohen didn’t remark to CTV News on the kind of intelligence that had knowledgeable the Canadian authorities.

The U.S. made clear on Friday that it anticipated the Indian authorities to work with Canada on efforts to research the attainable involvement of New Delhi brokers in Nijjar’s homicide.

“We are deeply concerned about the allegations that Prime Minister Trudeau has raised,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken advised reporters in a press briefing.

“It would be important that India work with the Canadians on this investigation. We want to see accountability.”
